For sale is a Mexican fire jelly opal ring in sterling silver.  This is an "old pawn" silver ring with the classic feather mounting.  The ring features a luminous jelly opal that is translucent with splashes of fire over the entire surface of the opal.  This opal flashes with a vivid and shifting watercolor of cherry red, tangerine, lime, yellow and deep purple.  The opal has small brown markings, evidence of the original boulder (or matrix) from which it was mined.  The opal is bezel set and backed in silver.  The bezel mounting is framed in pyrope (silver with a twisted rope design).  One side of the ring is decorated with a carved feather and Bali beads.  This is a stunning, high quality opal ring with wonderful old pawn style.  It would be attractive on a man or a woman.

Mexican opal rings used to be plentiful, and were popular tourist souvenirs.  However, these lovely boulder opals are no longer being mined in Mexico and are increasingly hard to find.  They will become increasingly valuable with time!
