The magnificent ruby displays a lovely six-rayed star that appears in bright, direct light. In softer lighting, the opaque gemstone takes on a beautiful, mysterious glow, revealing subtle variations of lavender, plum, and reddish purple. Rubies and sapphires are both varieties of the mineral corundum, with ruby being the name given to its red varieties.
