Mexican Boulder Fire Opal in 925 Silver. Mid-Century Modern. 12g *Video*

I’m in love with this Mid-Century Modern Mexican boulder opal ring. It combines a spectacular natural opal with a bold geometric silver setting that feels unmistakably modernist.

The focal point is a perfectly round Mexican boulder opal, framed by clean, architectural lines. The stone reminds us of an old-fashioned marble, with warm tan, rust and reddish matrix crossed by a thick seam of translucent jelly opal.

And what an opal! The translucent seam comes alive as you move the ring in the light, revealing a huge range of fiery color. You’ll see plenty of neon green, orange, cherry red and fuchsia, but the star of the show—in our opinion—is the occasional flash of brilliant sky blue. Like most opals, its colors are more subtle in dim light, but in bright light this one absolutely roars to life.

The opal is backed in silver and set into the dramatic asymmetrical setting. The strong geometric frame is a wonderful counterpoint to the organic character of the stone, giving the ring that fabulous Mid-Century Modern look. A simple half-round silver band completes the design at the back.

This is a truly exceptional one-of-a-kind opal ring—bold, beautifully made, and not something you are likely to find again.
