14k Yellow Gold Carved Repousse WATER SNAKE Pendant. Antique

For sale is a 14k yellow gold pendant with a repousse snake.  This pendant was converted by my jeweler from a set of antique cufflinks.  (The matching pendant has already been sold.) The pendant is a large domed oval with a detailed, finely crafted snake design.  This style of craftsmanship, popular during the Art Nouveau period, is called repousse.  It is created by hammering the pattern into the gold from the reverse side.  The snake is rendered in fine detail including her eyes and scalloped scales.  She is depicted as she emerges from the water, and the waves are curving and swirling around her head.  The pendant has an attached bail to accommodate your chain.  This is an unusual, beautifully crafted pendant.  It would be attractive worn by either a man or a woman.  It can be worn alone or layered with other necklaces.

The item shows normal wear for a pre-owned piece (light scratches, dings, dents and scuff marks.)
