14k Gold Reverse Painted Essex Crystal Dog BUBBLE Earrings

For sale is a pair of 14k yellow gold "Bubble" earrings with reverse painted dogs.  Reverse painted jewelry was very popular during the late 19th and early 20th century, most often used for sporting themes such as hunting, fishing and often, dogs!  I had my jeweler convert these earrings from a set of cufflinks.  Each lovely antique earring features a portrait of a small dog with short ears that stick up jauntily.  Each dog has wavy fur and a cheerful expression.  One of the dogs has darker brown fur, the other has tan fur.  The dogs are painted on the back of a domed crystal, creating the "bubble" effect.  This gives each portrait an interesting, slightly magnified look.   The earrings are beautifully made with hand-crafted bezel settings.  The earrings are each backed in gold.  The earrings fasten with 14k yellow gold butterfly backs.  These unusual earrings would be especially charming for those with sweet, small brown companion!
