14k Gold Panda Bears Disc Pendant w Gypsy-Set Diamond. Ling Ling + Hsing Hsing

For sale is a 14k yellow gold 2 panda bear pendant with a diamond.  This beautifully crafted pendant was crafted to commemorate the famous panda bear duo Ling-Ling and Hsing-Hsing who were given to the United States as a gift from China in 1972.  These two pandas were much beloved, and drew millions of Americans and others to the National Zoo in Washington DC over the decades they lived there.  The pendant is a disc, and features one standing panda, and one on all fours.  The artist was ingenious in using raised and recessed gold to contrast the black and white parts of each bear.  The pendant is set with a small, high-quality round diamond.  The diamond is beautifully gypsy-set, surrounded by a lovely array of engraved rays like a sunburst. The pendant is polished smooth on the front, and textured on the back.  The pendant has an articulated bail to accommodate your chain.  This pendant will be stunning worn by either a man or a woman.  

Ling-Ling and Hsing-Hsing were giant pandas given to the United States as gifts by the government of China following President Nixon's visit to China in 1972.  The pandas had been captured in the wild in June and December 1971. When the Nixons had a dinner with Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai at Beijing during the 1972 visit, First Lady Pat Nixon mentioned her fondness for panda bears, to which Zhou replied, "I'll give you some."  They arrived at the National Zoo in Washington DC on April 16, 1972.  The two beloved panda bears attracted millions of visitors each year. The item shows normal wear for a pre-owned piece (light scratches, dings, dents and scuff marks.)
