18k Yellow Gold Carved Black Jade NAGA Buddha Pendant. 2" + 20g

For sale is a 18k yellow gold pendant with a carved black jade "naga Buddha."  The pendant is a symbol of PROTECTION - like the protection that the snake god offered to Buddha, sheltering him with the snake's hood.  This pendant is large, heavy and exquisitely crafted from the finest materials.  The Buddha sits atop the coiled tail of the naga (snake god).  The snake's large hood forms a frame protecting Buddha from the elements above.  Both Buddha and the snake are beautifully carved on both sides.  The snake's intricate scales are engraved on both sides of the pendant.  Buddha is depicted with a peaceful, joyous expression as he sits meditating in lotus pose.  The Buddha is cradled in a hand-crafted multi-prong setting that is sturdy and attractive.  The setting has a large gold cap on the bottom.  The pendant has a large articulated bail to accommodate your chain. It is said that six weeks after Buddha began meditating under the Bodhi tree, the heavens darkened for seven days, and a prodigious rain descended. However, the mighty King of Serpents, Mucalinda, came from beneath the earth and protected Buddha from the elements . When the great storm had cleared, the serpent king assumed his human form, bowed before the Buddha, and returned in joy to his palace.
