For sale is a silver Tibetan tanka coin set in an 18k yellow gold bezel pendant. The Tanka was minted in silver in Tibet from the mid 1850s until 1941. This authentic silver coin is intricately engraved on both sides, with lovely patina. You can wear the pendant with either side facing forward. The 18k gold bezel is textured with a snakeskin design that coils around the edge of the coin. The textured pattern is visible on both sides of the pendant. The coin is bezel set in 18k gold with a large articulated bail to accommodate your chain.

***What are the meanings of the many symbols on the Tanka coin?
The front of the tanka features a stylized lotus flower (symbol of purity) within a circle surrounded by the eight auspicious symbols of Buddhism: vase (abundance), golden fish (salvation), amphora of ambrosia (love), conch shell (glory), infinite knot (rebirth), umbrella of sovereignty (protection), banner (victory), and wheel of law (the eight-fold path to enlightenment). On the back of the coin an eight-petaled flower within a star is ringed by a Tibetan legend that fits neatly in eight oval frames. The eight divisions of the coin symbolize the eight compass directions and the eight pathways to enlightenment and good fortune. The lotus flower symbol is also rich with meaning. Rising beautifully out of muddy water, the lotus represents purity in an impure world. The design incorporates a pathway down the center of the flower to the realm of spiritual enlightenment.
