14k Yellow Gold Red Garnet Festoon Teardrop Necklace. 14k Chain

For sale is a 14k yellow gold festoon necklace with natural red garnets.  This antique Victorian era necklace is a festoon or bib style necklace.  The necklace features a rectangular gold piece that is set with a large central garnet, which is flanked by two smaller round garnets.  These garnets are stunning, hand-cut and translucent.  These garnets are darker in dim light, and have a lovely ruby red glow in sunlight or bright indoor light.  The gold pendant is decorated with elaborate Bali beads and curving filigree gold.  This drop style pendant features a garnet teardrop that dangles below the gold frame.  This garnet is mounted in a crown setting and edged in gold with a twisted rope design.  The pendant's dedicated 14k gold chain attaches to two bails at each of the gold frame.  In the Victorian era, a woman might own only a single necklace during her lifetime, to be worn only on the most important occasions.  This necklace was likely kept in a jewelry box and rarely worn for most of its life.  It would be stunning worn with a velvet or silk gown at the holidays, or over a high-necked blouse at a formal occasion.
