For sale is an exceptional antique Australian boulder opal ring, with a wonderfully large stone, spectacular color play, and dramatic carved dragon shoulders.

The slightly domed oval opal is secure in a simple bezel frame, allowing the extraordinary natural patterns of the stone to take center stage. Its character changes beautifully from one end to the other. At one end, vivid electric blue and lime green appear in an almost pointillist pattern of tiny flashes. Across the center flows a broad river of luminous blue-green opalescence, while the opposite end reveals a fascinating pool of tan to rich chocolate-brown natural matrix.

The setting is every bit as special as the stone. Each shoulder features a dimensional carved dragon, giving the ring a bold antique character and a wonderful sense of movement. The substantial ring tapers toward the back to a comfortable, simple half-round band.

As expected with an antique opal that has been worn and loved, the stone has surface scratches and small dings, particularly visible under magnification. Please review the photographs carefully. We think the signs of age suit the wonderfully storied character of this piece.
