18k Yellow Gold 'See Hear Speak No Evil' - 3 Monkey Watch Fob Pendant

For sale is an 18k yellow gold triple "see no evil" monkey pendant.  This heavy, solid gold pendant was originally a watch fob.  It features the three "mystic apes" who act as a reminder to be of good mind, speech and action.  All three apes are skillfully carved around the circumference of the pendant. Each ape displays a different principle.  One ape covers her eyes (see no evil), the 2nd covers her ears (hear no evil), and the third covers her mouth (speak no evil.). The apes are carved with intricate details including eyes, fingers, toes, limb and fur.  The pendant has a large domed apple green chrysoprase cabochon at the bottom.  The chrysoprase is bezel set and framed in gold with a wonderful zig-zag edge.  The pendant has a jump ring bail to accommodate your chain.  This pendant would be attractive worn by either a man or a woman

The three wise monkeys are a Japanese pictorial maxim, embodying the proverbial principle "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil". The three monkeys are

• Mizaru, who sees no evil, covering his eyes
• Kikazaru, who hears no evil, covering his ears and
• Iwazaru, who speaks no evil, covering his mouth.

Together they are referred to as the three mystic apes.

There are various meanings ascribed to the monkeys and the proverb including associations with being of good mind, speech and action.
