For sale is a 14k yellow gold ring with black Ethiopian Welo opals. This artisan-crafted ring features six oval cabochon black opals arranged in a modern, stylized flower pattern.  These natural opals were mined in the Wollo province of Ethiopia.  The opals have become rare and increasingly valuable because the Ethiopian mines have been permanently closed.  Each opal is translucent, and each has a slightly different base color and fire.  The opals appear black with subtle fire in dim light.  In bright light and sunlight the opals appear lighter black or brown, and they flash with an infinity of ever-changing colors.  The array of colors makes this ring fascinating to look at as you move it in the light.  Each opal displays cherry red, neon green, tangerine and yellow fire.  Some opals also flash with vibrant purple, fuchsia and even peacock blue.  The ring is large and wide, making a bold impression on the hand.
