14k Gold Mourning Pendant. Sailor's Widow at Grave. Damage

For sale is an 14k yellow gold sepia painting mourning pendant  This Victorian era mourning pendant features a beautiful young maiden who leans on a large anchor as she gazes wistfully out to sea, grieving her lost sailor love. The sepia ink used in Victorian mourning jewelry used paint made from the hair of the departed loved one.

This is truly a lost art in today's world. This lovely and delicate image is framed in vibrant red enamel and decorated with Bali beads that encircle the entire oval pendant. The pendant is backed in 14k gold and has a large bail to accommodate your chain. The back of the pendant shows solder marks where our jeweler removed the original pin back.

The delicate sepia painting is protected by an oval glass pane that is held securely in a gold bezel frame. Sadly, the glass has been damaged over the years and has three feathered crackle lines in the center. There is no damage to the sepia mourning painting, but the pendant should be protected from water by its new owner. The pendant is backed in 14k gold.  It has an articulated bail to accommodate your chain.

This mourning pendant looks amazing with other Victorian, gothic, and Egyptian revival style jewelry. You might pair it with garnets, rose-cut diamonds, jet, or pearls.
