For sale is an 14k yellow gold antique Memento Mori ring with garnets. This Victorian era antique ring is simply the most wonderful memento ring we've had the privilege to sell. Memento mori rings were popular in the 17th century as mourning jewelry, to help the living to remember their loved ones who had departed. By wearing this ring, a young widow could let everyone know that she was in mourning for her lost love. 

The ring features a large skull at the center. The skull has a large cabochon garnet in the top. This garnet is deep blood red and appears almost black even in bright light. The skull has two vibrant garnet eyes. The garnets appear darker in dim light, but glimmer with wine red color in bright light.

Both shoulders of the ring are made from 3-dimensional cherubs.  Each cherub is beautifully formed. The cherubs' heads touch the sides of skull and their little bodies form the shoulders of the ring. The back of the ring narrows to a simple half-round band in back. Ideal for remembering your loved ones.

The item shows normal wear for a pre-owned piece (light scratches, dings, dents and scuff marks.)
