14k Gold & Copper Japanese SHAKUDO Birds + Flowers Pendant - R

For sale is a 14k yellow gold and Copper alloy SHAKUDO pendant in a 14k yellow gold frame. Shakudo refers to the metal from which this ring was crafted, which is a gold and copper alloy that was used by Japanese artisans during the 12-15th Centuries.

The alloy's dark, purplish-black surface color, achieved through a special treatment, creates a high-contrast patterns with the inlays of gold and silver. Because of the great expense of the gold in shakudo products, Japanese artisans used shakudo only for small decorative accents, most often on the hilt of a sword and other small pieces.

This small piece was one of two that I recovered from an estate and I do not know their original function. We turned them in to pendants, and have two similar pieces available. 

The oval shakudo forms the dark background for this lovely nature scene. The bird is made from copper, and hovers over flowers made from inlaid copper, yellow gold and silver.

The scene is set inside a 14k rose gold frame and has a large yellow gold bail to accommodate your chain. This intricate scene is simply stunning, and will look lovely with your yellow, rose, white gold and silver jewelry.
