10k Yellow Gold Heart Pendant w Diamond Flower. Victorian B&N

For sale is a beautiful antique 10k yellow gold heart locket by the respected American jewelry maker Bugbee & Niles (B&N). Established in 1859 by Samuel H. Bugbee and Gardner H. Niles, the company was part of New England’s important jewelry-making tradition, with operations associated with Providence, Rhode Island and North Attleboro, Massachusetts.

This is a wonderfully well-crafted classic. Measuring just under 1", the heart has a solid, sturdy feel and is decorated across the front with delicate hand-engraved flowers, leaves and graceful scrolling stems.

The centerpiece is especially lovely—a three-dimensional five-petal flower, perhaps a violet, rising from the surface of the locket. Each petal has fine linear detailing, while a small round natural diamond sparkles from the center. The combination of engraving, dimensional gold work and that tiny flash of diamond gives this antique locket wonderful character.

The reverse is polished smooth, providing a beautiful contrast to the ornate front. The locket opens to hold a treasured photograph or keepsake and snaps securely closed.
