10k Yellow Gold Diamond WALMART Signet Ring. 10mm Wide + 7g

This is one of those pieces that stopped us in our tracks—a remarkably rare vintage WAL-MART ring crafted in solid 14k yellow gold and set with a natural diamond.

The ring was made by respected American jeweler R. Johns Ltd. during the earlier days of Walmart in the late 20th century. It is beautifully made from solid 14k yellow gold—not hollow—with the substantial construction and weight of a quality signet ring.

The wide front features a recessed rectangular panel with WAL-MART spelled out in tall, raised gold letters against a darkened background. At the center is a small round natural diamond, an unexpectedly luxurious detail that makes this already unusual piece even more fun. The diamond is bright, sparkly, and eye-clean, with inclusions visible under magnification.

The ring has a classic signet-style profile, with a broad face that tapers slightly toward the back. Its large scale makes it equally suitable for a man or woman. We also think it would make an amazing conversation-piece pendant slipped onto a substantial gold chain.

And rare really does seem to be the word here. We have never encountered another one on eBay or Etsy, and our initial searching turned up no comparable solid-gold Walmart rings—much less one set with a diamond. Whether this was an executive piece, an employee award, or made for another purpose, we don't know, which only adds to the intrigue.

The ring has been worn and shows scuffs and light scratches to the gold, along with several tiny flea-bite dings along the tops of the letters in “WAL.” Please examine our magnified photographs for the best view of its condition.
